June 4 - First Look at Paradise

We were up early and used the kayak to go up the Wailua River. It was very peaceful...no one else was around. Just as we were starting it began to rain...very lightly. We had a full rainbow over the river. Very pretty. The rain only lasted a few moments and then the sun was out again. After we went up river we took the kayak to the mouth of the river and out into the surf. We had a lot of fun.

Wailua RiverAfter we cleaned up we went into Lihue to look around. We ended up at Kalapaki Beach. Very nice...just what you would think a Hawaiian resort beach would look like. We walked down the beach, did a little window shopping and then relaxed under a coconut tree and waited for Duke's to open. We had a nice lunch overlooking the water.
After lunch we drove by the Wailua Falls...these are the falls that were used in the opening scene of "Fantasy Island". Very pretty

Wailua FallsWe went to a farmer's market in the afternoon and bought a few things for dinner. We really had a nice relaxing day.
